Benjy has officially came back to stay w us since New Year day :) the first two weeks was not ez for him. Although it didn't seem like marking but he did urine n poo randomly in my living room. Duh! Now he's more adapted and has not done so in a couple of days.

Xazz loves to accompany him and enjoys bringing him down for walks. I always find it rather amusing that a small girl is walking a small dog. Lol!

Xazz had a Dora-style haircut. She requested for it more than once and finally I relented. She does not like to tie up her hair so this was indeed the best alternative.

However silly girl misses her long hair the very next day while Mummy is loving her fuss-free hair.

Tristan's 7th bday - 11.11.11

The cousins arranged to meet up on 12.11 (Sat) to celebrate Tristan's bday. We had lunch around 12+ at Crystal Jade @ Taka B1, and shopped the whole day away in town.

We spent 3/4 day at Taka, and then decided to browse inside MDS - an online blogshop that has a physical store in Wisma and Plaza Sing now. I bought a girly pink dress there <3 Coincidentally met colleague Emily there as well. She immediately requested to have an evident shot together with Xazz.. lol!

Shopping till 9+ in the night was no mean feat. I hardly shop like that anymore :( Totally exhausted, we took a cab back. It was a tiring, but fulfilling shopping trip.

This is another blog that I've been reading. It started when one of her fren, then 19yo, was killed instantly in a car crash.

Just few days back, I read about her 2yo son being diagnosed with Leukemia. Right after the passing of Charmaine, I don't think I'm ready to handle yet another 2.5year fighting journey w baby Jaxon. His condition was advised by doc to be less serious and had a high chance of fully recovering from it.

I do hope Life can be merciful to these innocent children. There are definitely more than what I already know but these lil' ones do deserve their lives, don't they?

Primary 1 placement

Received letter for P1 orientation. Xavier was been placed in Primary 1 Honesty for academics and Red House for sports.

I supposed his school does not practise pre-primary entry test, even tho students were advised to bring stationary and colour pencils for interactive activity w the Form Teacher on orientation day.

Book list was attached in the mail. We would most probably deal w hand-me-down textbooks from his cousin.

Xazz's performance falls on the same day. I'm crossing my fingers, hopefully we will make it in time without rush.

Xazz's ballet lesson ended first term last Sunday, and all the kids prepared a short dance performance for all their proud papa and mama. And of course, I was one of the proud mummy there :) We forgot to bring the soft toy, and thus she was the only "extraordinary" one carry a Dora bag instead. Haha!

Charmaine Lim - The Feisty Princess

I followed her blog since the start of the fundraising to get her to NYC for treatment. It had been more than 2 years. Charmaine Lim - this lil girl, born on the same year as Xavier, contracted a rare childhood cancer - Neuroblastoma at its 4th stage. She was merely 4 year old when it happened. There was still so much in life this lil' girl has not seen!

In the recent months, her health took a turn for the worst. She finally decided not be to intubated anymore, and decisions were made to bring her out of ICU and back home to wait.... for the day she leaves. I think it must be a tormentous period for the whole family, especially Cyn mommy. I cannot comprehend how to get through the agony of "counting down to my child's forever depature".

Charmaine left in the early morning of 21st October 2011. I cried.

For a consecutive few nights, I think about this lil girl even before I go to bed. I wish sincerely with my whole heart that she is indeed in a better place now. A place where she can watch over and bless her family, but far away from all the pain and sufferings. Sometimes I cant help but wonder if Charmaine's existence was a plan from God to spread the message of love through her short span of life on Earth. There were relics found among her remains, and that kinda made me affirmative of my thinking. Not any one would have relics in his/her remains, but for a lovely young child like her to have, I'm sure there must be a meaning/message in her life.

Even till today when I google for her old photos and videos, tears well up in my eyes as I view through them. Even reading Cyn mommy's "letter" to Charmaine on her blog today made me cry buckets.

We may live a century, but it's quality of our lives that really matter. So, I try to console myself that even though Charmaine was void of her priviledge to live by her mommy's side for a longer period, she had touched and brought about ALOT of love in many many people's hearts. And, that's what matters more, isn't it? :)

Passing of an uncle

Uncle Teck passed away on Thursday night. His body will be cremated this evening.

He'd been living on kidney dialysis for the past 19 years. Since end last year, his health took a downturn. He was in and out of the hospital frequently due to water retention in his body. His dialysis was withdrawing lesser water from his body each time. When water was not withdrawn, it caused him to feel breathless which ended him up in hospital.

His last stay at KTPH was more than a month (if i rem right). He was finally discharged on Wed. He went for his usual dialysis on Thursday morning withdrawing no more than 500ml of fluid. He became breathless later Tue same day due to water retention.

He gasped his last breathe at 10+pm....

MAF

We spent this year's MAF at my grandparents' place It was heartwarming and precious for 4 generations to sit around together, and bond over laterns and mooncakes despite the mosquitoes and heat.

Aunt bought the traditional lanterns for them, which need to be lit with candles (rather than being battery-operated). In fact, I quite dislike those battery-operated ones cos' the music is loud and annoying.

式着和阿龙的师傅预约好多次都约不到一个合意的时间。又听着莉说着陈君荣师傅有多厉害，我们决定豁出去本钱式着和他预约。

昨天，我就打电话过出和负责人了解情况。她给了我两个合适的日期好让我们和屋主商量。真没想到，那麻烦的屋主竟然当天就答应让师傅下个星期上去做事。好开心哦！

是天意要我们聘用陈师傅吗？为何决定用他时，日期这么容易约得到？

无论如何，我今早就连忙登记预约日期，也负了费。希望一切都会从下礼拜的约会开始顺利进行！：）

Last night, we almost lost Benjy for good.

I brought the kids down to the playground together with Benjy. Seeing him panting, I leashed him to the bench that I was sitting while I read the papers and the kids enjoying their playtime. However Benjy did not want to lie down to rest despite panting away. Seeing that he was keen to continued walking, I unleashed him while I continued reading my papers as I did not expect him to roam far with his current stamina.

5 minutes on, I turned to check on him and found him LOST! Xavier was not around as well! I thought Xavier had brought him away unleashed, and that worried me. After all Xavier does not know how to control an unleashed dog. I started to panic :(

I rushed to the mama shop nearby with Xazz but could not find either of them. We hurried around the blocks, shouting for Benjy at the same time. Out of nowhere, Xavier appeared frantically searching for me at the playground. I asked if Benjy was with him, he said NO. My heart sank. Many thoughts ran through my mind while we combed through the estate, shouting his name non-stop. It was fruitless, I could not see any sight of him. I even looked into deeper drains, worried that he might have fallen in and did not bark. Finally... I broke down. I called Zw down to help me find. When he heard "lost", I think he thought I lost the kids or something. He sounded frantic as well.

He came down to help look for Benjy. We searched the same place over and over again, but still to no avail. I gave up. I sat at the void deck of Blk 137, hugged Xazz and cried. Xavier stood behind me, and cried as well cos' he felt partially responsible for the loss. Just then, Zw called me on my mobile. He said he found Benjy! The joy was beyond words can describe, I tell you.

I duno how, but silly Benjy landed on 8th floor of Blk 138. A kind lady (who was also a dog owner) carried him down after her failed attempt to feed him some food and water. I almost wanted to hug the lady tight for finding back my old man. I really thanked God Benjy was back safe and sound.

Preparing for P1

We went Popular after dinner this evening to grab some assessment books for Xavier. This lucky boy was never drilled to do much homework but I think it's high time he gets started now. Browsing thru the books gave me quite a shock. It was SO much tougher than what I used to learn! It's also quite a leap from what he's being taught in kindergarten now, esp language subjects.

I'm not the typical kiasu parent who expect my child to get into the best school and /or know every subject so well even before he starts his primary education. For school, we registered Xavier into Zw's primary sch so that we'r sure the boy will be guaranteed a placing. (Hehe!). As for theadditional assessments, we'r hoping to lay a stronger foundation for him since he has been slacking for the past 5+ years :P

Hopfully by doing so, the transition into primary education will be a smoother ride :)

On the she note, I can't imagine Lazy Me having to juggle btw tiding a bigger house and coach him with his work,on top of my already pretty busy workload, next year. Sigh.

Brought Xazz for princess photoshoot last month. Was quite disappointed with the professionalism though..

When i registered for the shoot, i check w the incharge what do i have to bring along on the actual day. She told me just to bring Xazz. Sounded friendly aye? But on the day we arrived, the photographer (another lady) asked if i brought make up and appropriate shoes for her. I was pissed immediately! But anyw.. Here's the final pc which i collected ytd.

Pulau Ubin

We made an impromptu decision to go Pulau Ubin. Xazz had wanted to visit her BFF - Charlene so I called her mom to check if they were available at home, only to know that they were packing up for Pulau Ubin. So, we gobbled our lunch and they came over to pick up within half and hour. We didn't even packed anything along. I had to rush to Guardian to grab a 1.5L mineral bottle of water, a box of mosquito patch and some snacks. Evelyn was amazed by my stocking within such a short notice. Keke!

It was the kids' virgin vogage and they were all excited to be out on the sea. None of them was afraid! Not long after, we reached Pulau Ubin! ^^

It has been ages since I last rode a bicycle, and has totally 0% confidence in ferrying my kids. LOL! Luckily we have some pro bikers amongst us. Hehe.

Look at the way Xazz sits. She was totally enjoying herself especially when the bike swiftly went down slope, lifting her hands up high almost covering Evelyn's eyes. Evelyn got gan jiong-ed for a moment. Haha! Damn funny~
I rented a 4-wheeler for Xavier to ride on his own. The road was too bumpy and slopy for a newbie. He fell down his bike twice and gave up riding. Fortunately, he did not suffer any scraches or wounds from the fall. He was smart enough to "jump" out rather than falling together with the bicycle.

If u noticed, Xavier gave up on his own bicycle after falling down twice. Luckily DaJie's bike has 2 passengers' seats. teehee! Well, so we en-routed to return Xavier's bike before continuing on the journey.

Before long, everyone was tired and hungry from cycling to and fro. Around evening time, we decided to head back. Had zichar there before heading for the ferry back to Singapore island.

Xavier's gog to Pri 1

Today is the P1 registration - phase 2A(2). Children whose parents are ex-student but did not join the alumni can register today.

We'd thought the school shld be crowded on registration day but it turned out to be quiet, just like any other usual school day. To think that we actually skipped breakfast just so to reach earlier for registration. Ha! We entered the General Office and a teacher attended to us. She made photocopy of the documents we brought and told us to fill in a green registration form. Minutes after returning the form to her, she told us to bring Xavier back in Nov for orientation.

It was all done in less than 10mins! A new experience for us and a smooth one indeed ;)

Story Telling @ Sentosa

I decided to bring Xavier to Sentosa with CP and Tristan, and leave Xazz in the childcare :P Last year when we went RWS Festive Hotel to stay, Xazz was terrified by the 4D adventure ride which cost us to waste one ticket's money. So I concluded that it should be easier not to bring her along so as not to limit the rides the boys could enjoy. teehee~

Our main intention to go into Sentosa was to catch the June hols activity - Story-telling comes alive! The book that was being read during the session we attended was "The Enormous Turnip".

We missed the first story telling session @ 11am, so we went for the CineBlast ride prior that and had lunch at KFC.

We went to take paid "tourist-y" pictures with the parrots and strolled around Sentosa snapping nonsense pictures as well :P

After the story telling, there was sock puppet art and craft session available for $8 each. The boys were excited!

After that, we took the monorail to Beach station for some sandy fun. It was Tristan's first experience barefooted on the sands.

After dinner @ MacDonalds', it was home sweet home~

On the way home, Xavier kept repeating to me that he had an enjoyable day. I'm sure he had a rollin' good time :D

Happy Fathers Day!

Happy Fathers' Day to all Dads out there. Guess 19th June is an import and memorable day for us.

The flat that we offered last week was finally confirmed! At a rather high COV tho :\ $46K. We also managed to sell ours to the first viewer. He was very steadfast and offered on the spot. We'r glad that our flat can fetch such a decent price. Once we sign the OTP for the unit tmr, we'll be all set to do up the house!

Dear had already mapped a rough layout of what he had in mind. We had been seeing flats for the last month - at least 15 flats? It's pretty obvious he really liked this one we'r getting. Met CP later in the evening and she introduced a homemade wallpaper seller to us. We went up to the show flat to view some samples. They were indeed of good quality from Korea. Each roll (15x1m) costs $250 excluding workmanship. Sounds rather ex, so I intend to search on forums for alternative sorces ;P

Meanwhile there's also nothing else we can do till we get the keys. Probably some housekeeping to ease our shift might be the only thing that we need to do now.

Focus group on sensitive skin

I joined my first focus group yesterday. The topic was on sensitive skin. There were 8 of us who share a common problem w our skin - sensitivity!

It was pretty amazing how we could just sit ard, have tea snacks, talk about the problems that have been bugging us for most of our lifetimes AND get paid for it! On top of that we each had to bring home 4 samples to try and write reviews on them. Some people might think that we'r like guinea pigs but I beg to differ. People like myself who have sensitive skin cannot use any and every item off the shelf. I guess the term of the skin condition tells it all.

I feel that it is also a good marketing channel. If the test range suits my sensitive skin well, I would definitely feel confident changing my existing products to them. By offering me to do a free test and then gain me as a customer sounds like a win-win situation for the vendor. That is one optimistic view but will of cos be a totally different conclusion if the product does not suit me :P

All in all it was a new experience for me.

I hardly complain to anyone abt my life, except to Alicia. When i realised that I've been sprouting negativities to more than one other fren, Im really stressed!

My mornings mostly malfunction the moment i open my eyes. Dreams felt more beautiful.

Mad rush.. Shoutings.. Beatings.. Who wakes up to such dramatic mornings almost EVERYDAY. Weekends are the only exceptions :)

I regain peace once i dropped the kids, and make my way to work. But i don't like what Im feeling.

Isn't home supposed to b the place one feels most serene in?

So i gave him abit lor. Then after he swallowed,

... And so, one mouth aft another, he ate half my packet of dinner!

Me: (pissed off) why u keep eating? Js now u say u don't want. I v hungry leh.. Now nothing to eat liao.

6yo child fell to his death

6year-old boy dies in Tampines tragedy

A six-year-old boy who was left home alone for the first time fell to his death on Monday morning from his flat at Tampines Street 42.

It's believed Marson Heng, a kindergarten 2 pupil, climbed out of the kitchen window of the fifth-storey flat with the help of a laundry basket, reported The Straits Times.

The window grilles were shut but unlocked, as the family had put the laundry out to dry.

His mother discovered his body at the foot of the block a few minutes later when she was on her way home after running some errands.

The police received a call at 8:55am about the fall at Block 446, Tampines Street 42. The boy suffered serious head and leg injuries and was pronounced dead 15 minutes later.

Mrs Heng, 28, a housewife said she had left the flat at 7am to take her eight-year-old daughter for swimming lessons nearby, before going to the market to buy groceries. Marson's grandfather, who lived with the family, had gone to a coffee shop while the boy's father, Mr Heng CY had left for work.

"He normally wouldn't wake up till 9 or 10 in the morning, as he attended kindergarten in the afternoon," said Mr Heng, 40, an aircon technician.

Both parents had expected the boy to sleep in as the PAP Community Foundation kindergarten he attended had declared a one-day holiday after it held a sports event for the pupils on Sunday.

"He must have been shocked that no one was at home when he woke up, so he climbed up to see if he could find us," said the boy's father, who rushed home once he got a call from the police.

He said Marson could recognise the company van which he drove to work in MacPherson. The boy might have fallen while looking for his father's van.

Heng added that Marson was never a difficult child to take care of. He was an active boy but was cautious of heights as he had hurt his right arm in a fall when he was three years old.

Neighbours who knew the family described Marson as an extremely friendly child who always greeted them when he saw them along the corridor.

"We haven't told his sister yet… Even though they fought sometimes, they were very close," said Mr Heng.

I was dumbfounded when I read this on sg.yahoo news late last night. I had just left Xavier alone at home earlier the same day. Xavier is also 6yo. Suddenly a sense of guilt gushed through me for risking his life.

Xazz's school called to say that she had vomitted twice in an hour. Xavier himself was recuperating from a bout of gastric flu which started last Friday. I spoke with Xavier to watch TV and have his lunch at home while I rushed off to pick his sister. He was co-operative. I did my due diligence to make sure all grills, main door and gate were locked.

When Xazz and I were back from school, I had to wash her up and bring her down to see doctor. I asked Xavier to stay at home, seeing him still lethargic. He was OK with the arrangement as well.

Then.. I saw this piece of news later the same night. Should I not have left him alone at home, at all? I certainly would kill myself if anything unfortunate happened to him :( *touch wood*

ZW consoled me, saying that it's all about how you teach your child. Climbing on grills even when there are adults at home is definitely still a NO.

Nonetheless, till today, I am still rather guilt-stricken for putting Xavier at home alone yesterday :/

CNY dinner @ Marina Barrage

The Ng family organised a CNY dinner @ Marina Barrage &th Storey Restaurant. I heard that the restaurant was famous for its steamboat, but we did not have that. Instead, we had their set menu. In my opinion, the meal costs more than its worth, seriously. The bill was approx. 1.5K for 8-course dinner for 2 tables. My gawd!

We did not even stay back to enjoy the beautiful night skies after dinner. It was rather unenjoyable :\

Finding joy in the lil' things I do with people I love

I took partial days leave on Wednesday and Thursday, then full day on Friday to complete my uber long weekend *loves*

Dyed, trimmed and treated my hair on Friday with Chari before some shopping at Orchard ION. We practically spent 1 day in Orchard from 10.30am to 8pm. It was shiok but tiring. I hardly shop like that anymore.

We all slept quite late on Friday, and ended up oversleeping till nearly 11am! I got a shock when I woke up as Xav has art class at 1045am. I rubbed my eyes to confirm if it was 940 or 1040 when I woke up :P I shook him up and asked if he wanted to go or pontang. He said he wanted to go (what a good student haha!) So, with Xazz still asleep, I quickly brought him down after a quick washup and rushed back to a sound asleep Xazz. hurhur. Zw said I was a winner! (^^)

Then brought the kids down to K9 Kulture to meet Mel and Mary. We were all too engrossed with the dogs and splashing water and what-not, we didn't take any pictures! Sian 1/2 when we were sitting in the cafe and Mel suddenly said, "I brought my cam leh -.-"

Cabbed to Mom's place after that, and spend the night there. It had been quite awhile since I spent more than 24hrs with my mom and sis. It felt great to return to 娘家 although sometimes mom's actions really pissed me off (LOL).

All in all, my long super packed weekend was fruitful and memorable :)

Botanical Gardens

27 Dec was a holiday in lieu of the Christmas holiday that falls on a Saturday. CP and I decided to bring the kids to the Botanical Gardens. It has been ages since I last been there :P I'm not exactly a green person, u know.

Christmas tree was still up, and brightly lit. I was awed that such a beautiful tree is actually made up from recycled materials.

The kids bought some food from the dispensing machine to feed fishes in the pond. Oh my, they must be really starving. The fishes were literally jumping out of the water for the food.

We spent this year's Christmas eve with huskies - Shadow and Jewel - at West Coast Park with Mel and ACT's family. The kids had some sandy fun at the playground before we went to Aunt's place for a quickie dinner.

Xav started feeling warm and irritated by his itchy rash.

Saw the Christmas tree at JP. Cant resist taking pix of it.. so prettyy!

At Mom's place.. Xav was so tempted by the presents, he asked me every few seconds if it was time to open the presents. LOL

Rapunzel

I brought the 2 kids to YS10 to watch Rapunzel. It was Xazz's first cinema-going experience. She was rather apprehensive about entering a cold dark place in the beginning, and went to the toilet about 5 times throughout the movie. Xavier, being the seasoned movie-goer, was able to sit still throughout the show and even watch part of the movie alone while I brought Xazz to the toilet.

The movie was quite nice, and both the kids love it :) I will attempt to bring them to the cinema for movies again.

2nd week wo maid

We decided to return the maid 2 Sundays ago when she almost lost the kids @ Chong Pang.

Well the story was like this.. I brought them down for lunch on the Thursday before the fateful day we decided to return her. I told her to watch over the kids as I went to get drk for them. When i returned, the maid was sitting alone at the table and she was sitting there so calmly I almost hit the roof! I asked her where the kids were, she simply say they ran off. WTF?!

Our table was near the roadside and I instantly felt sick to think that my kids might b in danger. I rushed off to search for them ard the market but couldn't find them. Thankful they found their way back w Xavier taking the lead.

Once they were safe n sound, I began reprinting the maid. She defended.herself saying she was looking aft the belongings (which consists of water bottles n tissue papers). Got so stupid not??

That was the final straw. I decided I can't risk my kids' lives like this. And so on Sunday the same week I returned her to the agent.

So we'r officially maidless. Xazz started childcare the day aft we sent off the maid. Initially she would cry saying she's scared. Unpleasant week

The week that just past had been rather unpleasant. 2 death in a week - Nanny ah ma n Serene's mom.

Our family was quite involved in ah ma's funeral. I teared during the eulogy n cremation.

Although I nv spoke to ah ma much during the days @ Aunty's place (cos of language barrier), I'll nv forget some simple exchange of words we made.

During her sick period, she even told us not to save the hassle of visiting her or buying tonics for her. I saw how she struggled to fight the illness n heard fr Evelyn how she even was defeated by the illness. I feel for her like a kin. A moth settled on her alter during the wake and one flew into my room just now. Isit ah ma? I hope she is on her way to 极乐世界.

Maidy's last day

Maidy broke the news to me ard end Sep that she intends to return home to get married.

Here are we now @ airport T1 to send her off. Xavier was crying buckets, sad to see her leave. Surprisingly Xazz is totally indifferent to her departure. I had expected more emo fr smallBaby.

Xav's 5 years old

Time really flies past when you least monitor it. In a flash, Xav is now 5 yo alrdy. Looking back at his 4 yo photos, he seems to have grown up so much in a span of 1 year. My cute lil' baby is growing up into a boy already.

Besides the celebration in school (as usual), this year we celebrate it together with Grandpa as his chinese birthdate falls close to Xavier's date.

This boy requested us to bring him to Sand-tosa cos he says its a place full of "sand". -.- well, I managed to get a superb deal for RWS Festive Hotel Deluxe Suite, so indeed we went to Sentosa for a 2D1N stay :)

Upon checking in, the kids were appalled by the grandeur of the room. They loved every corner, even the toilet. On the day of check-out, Xav was so upset he asked if we could stay there forever. (LOL)

In the late afternoon, we took the monorail to Palawan beach. They had fun in the scorching sun, while I was sweating away profusely. Zw v smart, he stayed in the shade and played his iphone. bth.

In the night, we went over to Universal Studio - After hours. Entry was $5 per pax to see look. Dinner was @ Mel's but it wasn't very good. I ordered an ala carte hotdog bun for Xav and it cost $6! I could have bought 6 similar buns at ikea :\ My fried chicken burger had a frozen taste. Yucks!

After that, it was photo-taking and watching fireworks. Xazz was frightened by the loud bombing of the fireworks, so I stayed indoor in a shop with her. We only managed to get some glimpses of the fireworks.

The following day, after checking out, all of us went to watch the 4D-magix. I specifically checked with the ticket seller if it was suitable for Xazz to watch. He assured me that it was meant for small children. Since Xazz can enter FOC, I bought tix for 3adults (incl maidy) and 1 child. While queuing for our turn, we entered a dark chamber filled with green lights and loud scary pirate soundtracks. It scared the hell outta Xazz -.- She was crying uncontrollably and insisted on leaving. No choice, Zw brought her out of the Q to pacify the lil' one. So, I wasted one adult tix. Pissed~ In the show, there were parts where even adults get a shock lor, dun understand why the ticket seller says it's suitable for kids Xazz's age. knn!

We then headed home to meet Mom for dinner and Xav to collect his pressie from Granny.

HKG we went, and now back :)

Mel had free hotel vouchers and she kindly gave them to me. Bougt Jetstar tickets @ $750 2-way for both of us, and off we went to HKG on 01-04 Aug. It was the first time Dear and I went on a hols on our own. loves!

Right after alighting from the flight, we decided to conquer City Gate (with our luggauges in tow. Yes, you heard me right!) When we finally checked into our hotel, it was a pleasant surprise to be upgrade to the Regal Club Room :)

Our first proper meals @ Maxim. Yums :) Delicious cheap food! Then we went for night shopping at the long streets near our hotel.

On day 2 - we went to 黄大仙 temple.

Then on the way to lunch, my sandals snapped! I hit a curb the night before, during shopping but didn't expect to really snap off like this :(

We went to Elements after a hearty lunch in an air-conditioned restaurant.

So bling!
At night, we went to 星光大道 but the camera resolution was not so good for night shots, so photo quality is quite bad.

Day 3 - Macau!

Then my camera starting becoming bonkers -,- and the pictures all turn out sucky.

We then took the ferry from Macau to HK Island, to go up the peak. The crowd was totally MADness!

Finally squeeze up, must take photo with my idol! ..and hug him tight tight somemore ^^ happiness~

After taking some lame photos (which I will not show all :P) we walked over to LWF to see look. Go HKG must go there ma, right? ;) But then, I was so worried we would miss the last train back to Kowloon since it was already past midnight so we didn't stop by for a drink. :(

We concluded on one verdict - the girls in HKG island are much more chio-er than those we can hardly find in Kowloon. So boring for ZW la.. haha, but luckily still got a handful of "above avg" male eye candies ;)

On the last day, we decided to just sleep in until past 10am. Then we took our own sweet time to bathe and pack up. We'r boarding an evening flight, so time was aplenty. After checking out, we adjourned to a restaurant in a shopping centre nearby for a delightful and hearty lunch.

After lunch, we walked over to the iconic The Peninsular, intending to drop by for some drinks. Who knows it only opens at 5pm :( too late cos by that time, we needed to head for the airport.

So, we went to walk The Symphony of Lights again. This time is broad daylight. We got to see the statuses and fingerprint tiles on the floor.

hello! heh.. it has been ages since I last updated my blog. :P Very lazy .. office blocked blogger, so I really am too lazy to update at home. heh...

Anyway, life has been great.. and sometimes anxious! - cos of World Cup. Piangz.. some of the results are like, so unexpected lo.. see liao also sian. Skipping tonight's semi, but comtemplating to wake up to watch tmr's match between Germany vs Spain. Crossing my fingers, hoping that I can wake up.

We tried flying kite just last Sunday but failed terribly :P hehe! Saturday was spent at Mom's new nest while her church friends did spritual cleansing. Well, now Xavier has phonics class on every Sat evening for at least the next 12 weeks.. so saturdays will more or less be uneventful.

Heard from some friends on a new play spot - Kids Amaze (http://www.safra.sg/jrclubhouse_facilities_category.aspx?cid=166) for the kiddos.. hope to bring them there someday :)

Birthday was quite a quiet event this year, just simple celebrations with close pals. Xavier chose a PowerRanger cake for me.. LOL! and ask me why I didn't have present for my birthday. haha.. silly boy. So I told him, "You nv buy give me, so I dont have lor.." guess what was his response.. "You nv bring me go buy, how I buy.. I am small boy you know? Cannot go buy myself." W-I-N!

Had XO crab mee hoon with the SP boys and QM @ Ghim Moh. It was really lovely to gather like that! we were chatting abt the good ol' days.. and some frens whom we had to relate in such a hilarious status.. it got everyone tickled and amused. Life is good, just like that :)

On the last Friday of June, Xavier's phonics school organised a family outing to Pasir Ris Park. Since both Zw and myself ain't a huge beach lovers, Xavier hasn't really been to the beach before so I thought it was a great chance to bring him there for some fun with the sand and water.

Then over the adjourning weekend, Xavier and his cousin had splashing fun @ Seng Kang Sports Complex swimming pool before Xazz came along. Maidy had forgotten to bring Xazz's float.. so I had to take care of her and thus no photos of sweetie Xazz in the pool.

We brough the kids to Escape Theme Park on Xazz's birthday. There was one-for-one promotion for NTUC members.. so 3 of us only paid $20-odd to enter (Xazz enters free).

Heaven was not particularly kind to us as it started to pour after a few rides. We stayed indoor to play those tikam games @ $2.50 each. Damn ex. =

After that, we adjourned to Downtown East for dinner at Gelare and ordered a ~~cake~~ waffle for Xazz.. hehe.

The kids then played the mini-bowling alley. So mini.. Xazz can carry the ball herself.. LOL! but she apparently dump the ball onto the lane, we're so afraid it will smash a hole right under :P

Lastly, the kids did their art&craft (Xav's fav).. and then it was home sweet home.

It was a simple day out to celebrate Xazz's birthday.. but we all had fun and laughter :)

My mundane long wkend

The past couple of weeks can be summarised in 1 simple word - BUSY. Was supposed to meet Alicia for her bday, like.. a month ago but both of us were so busy we have yet to meet.

Oh well as usual, I am busy with both sets of work. Now I leave my wkend totally blank for the family and leisure. Visited Hong's 2nd baby girl - Isabelle - belated full month celebration last Saturday. Well, Valerie and Xazz are of the same age but Xazz's half year older. But, she looks so giant besides Valerie. I wonder if Xazz is too big size? >.< Apparently she's almost the size of Charlene who is 8 months older than her. Jialat. Anyway, didnt really got the chance to see the baby.. spent more time with the boys and Valerie instead. hurhur~

We had dinner for FIL's advanced bday. FIL isn't such a celebration person, so it was just a simple zi char dinner affair. No cake, nothing. The cousins spent some quality time running and playing around the estate tho.

Yesterday was on leave, and intended to bring Xavier to KinderLand see look. But clumsy Mom slipped down the stairs and injured her back, so I accompanied her to the clinic for x-ray instead.

That kinda sums up my mundane long weekend.

Am still up now at 2.37am to build my new website..hee! yup, I am starting on a new project. Quite fun and user-friendly. Will share more once website is all set up properly.

Shan, Germie and I usually will at least try to meet up on our birthdays, admist all our busy schedules. This year, it was particularly difficult to get everyone today. First, Xavier and Xazz were down with 'duno what' virus.. and on the morning of our postponed meet up, Germie informed that she is down with serious gastric flu.. poor thing.

So, not to disappoint Shan, I decided to go ahead with our 2nd planned brunch @Hacienda.

Brought Xazz along.. thankfully she was pretty obedient that day. The breakfast set is served till 5pm. Most people who go there opt for their breakfast, although they also have other other main courses. The food is very well cooked. Like the Eggs Benedict, the top coat is cheesy and underneath each side is a hard boiled egg, but the yolk remains watery. So when I sliced it, the yolk flows out to cover the entire bacon and muffin under it. Delicious! ~slurps..

And, ya.. if you have not already noticed.. Xazz had her first ever haircut (fringe) in her entire life to date. Quite ugly (imo) when she just got it cut, but maidy says she looks cute. Now that it has grown a decent length, it looks better. :

Xavier has got my ezcema and big tonsils. Poor baby having tonsilitis now :(( fever shot up to 40.2C. Brought him back to the chinese sinseh cos he was still on the chinese medication. Am going to insert his buttock if still above 39C by 11pm.

Xavier started coughing again after 2-3 days of cough-free days.. haiz. Brought him to see a chinese physician and am glad that he is accepting the smelly medication well. Kudos!

I'm sure I cant handle that chinese herbs smell as well as he does. This boy of mine.. one of the plus point admist all his misbehaviour, he's easy with medication. Duno is good or bad sign (lol!) On the other hand, Xazz is a big headache when comes to medicine time :P

I hope the chinese med is working better for him. Will need to bring him back for review next week. Also did massotheraphy for him.. still considering to do continuously or not, as sinseh say mus do at least weekly then can see the effect of it. But it also means $100 a month for the massotheraphy! Well, gotta see how it goes first.

Office work is piling like shit cos of the new OOB target my global unit has now. Leaves me almost too tired and shag to really put as much effort into my home biz thingy.

Sometimes too nua to even switch on the computer for some additional work. Contrary to what I mentioned in the last post about keeping a routine, heh, I am begining to break it. BUT! it's just a rest for a longer journey la.

Am not going to give up halfway like that. Though results may be slow, but definitely steady.. with consistent efforts la, of cos!

Anyw, I managed to set up my training centre @ http:/www.BusinessAgeOnline.com so share with more people about Internet and Network Marketing. At least people will know what is this industry about.. not like me blur blur when I just join. (hahaa!) but also lucky I have a good mentor.

Striving for a better future

As the saying goes, the intial stage of anything is always the toughest. I am now juggling between office work and the home business. It doesnt help that office workload is exponentially increasing over the past few months.

Likfe this morning, I go to work to be welcomed by 50+ more emails from what was left behind on Monday evening when I left home at 730pm. After working the whole day with 85% concentration, there are still 60 unread emails =.= And, I left office at 8pm today.

shag.

By the time I reach home, already 9+. Sometimes I dont even get to see Xazz cos she's an early sleeper :( The only time I see her is in the morning before I go to work, for about half an hour or so.

No good ya.

On the other hand, I have been religiously putting consistent effort into growing my home biz :D. I keep the discipline to do some work every night, no matter how tired. Just like the attitute I put forht in my day job. So, now it has become such a routine that once Xavier goes to bed, I will turn on the com to work for a couple more hours before I finally hit the sack.

Well, of cos it is tedious la! There is nothing to lie about it. even Zw can see the tiredness in my eyes when I wake up in the morning. But no effort no gain ma! This home biz thing is my own. If I dont strive, who should? tio bo?

Now, I'm setting up my training centre to share with mass - FREE! hee :D Should be able to launch it this week.

CNY 2010

We spent 1 week nuaing over CNY this year. LOL! I took leave from 17-19, worked from home on 21 and back to office on 22nd. It was a long, but quick week.

This year's visiting route was short and simple - the only places we went were to Grandparents' place and Zw aunt's place. LOL!

Dear's birthday fell during the CNY week. We had initially planned for a nice dinner outside but Aunty invited us over to her place for dinner. Well, hard to reject so we brought the cake along to her house. haha.

Last weekend, the kids had an enjoyable time fiddling and posing with the webcam. The photos are quite hilarious (on FB, by the way). A few here..

Chris and Esther wedding

We attended Chris and Esther wedding last Sunday at Orchard Hotel Singapore. I will have another wedding to attend at the same hotel, same ballroom next month. haha!

The excitment and happiness I feel when attending wedding still remain hyped. I always feel v touched and blessed to see my frens getting hitched :)

The food and service was good there. Lots of jokes and laughter throughout the banquet.. laugh until my face wanna cramp liao LOL.

I hate times when I feel stucked both ways, times when I feel like doing something else but know I cant cos of practical reasons.

Another thing is maidy is spoiling my mood day in day out. In a short span of 6 months being w us, her different patterns all start to surface.

1. doesnt wake up on time
2. doesnt follow instructions/routines

Point 2 can be elaborated to a thousand and one situations. damn kns! Those whom I complained to, suggest that I change a new maid. But I think I will just leave the kids in a full day CC should we really decide to get rid of her.

I dont deny the fact that she ease me lots of convenience. But at the expense of disrespectfulness, I really need to think about it.. whether this ease of convenience is really worthwhile.

Busy start of the year

Year 2009 hasnt really been fabulous in a summary.. perhaps due to more unhappy incidents in the later half of the year. Well, 2010 is a brand new year where things start afresh.

This week is a busy week for me.

Had dinner at The Nautilus Project @ ION Orchard w Chris and Anwar ytd to celebrate his bday. Food was decent, but way too pricey. I made the right main course choice w Tuna. It was cooked on the outside, raw on the inside. Sauteed prawns were tasty too! Chris ordered the regular Fish'n'Chips, but only ate 30% of the food. Not sure if the food was THAT bad for her, or cos she was ill to start with. Anwar's beef was OK. As usual, TC talk was our common topic. Really seems like a bad bad year for them. One technician fainted in the loo, and subsequently passed on - due to undiagnosed pneumonia. One other sales executive contracted tongue cancer. Underwent an op to remove part of his tongues and 31 (if i heard right) lymphnotes from his neck. Oh my! Speech is so darn important to a salesperson. Luckily, it was early stage so, he's blessed that the cancerous cells are totally removed. I hope everything will improve from now on.

And, today.. I attended a seminar on a business opportunity w Melaleuca. My first impression when I stepped in was "oh shit! MLM!!!". Sometimes first impression isnt always the right impression, right? I sat through the 1.5hr talk, had a look at the products (ALL eco-friendly & biodegradable), had a discussion w the leader. I felt that she would make a good team leader and I do see it as an opportunity to earn passive recurring income. To entice me further, membership fee is S$1, just for this month - New Year promo. Well, it was almost impossible to reject a ONE-DOLLAR opportunity to make more money right? So I decided to give it a try. I really hope I made the right choice.

Wish me luck! So, if anyone is buying/intend to buy Melaleuca products, come to me OK :)One serioud note, I think their products are really worth cos they are non-toxic, and are not expensive. I am honestly not saying this just for promotion sake.

Meeting my agent on Thurs.. mani/pedi on Fri to prepare myself meimei for sunday's wedding dinner. Power-packed from the first week of a new year. Good sign?

Today is the first day of a new year. No long list of resolutions this year round. Living by a single slogan - live simply, count my blessings.

Zw will have a brand new year with a brand new job. starting afresh from scratch. i hope he gets somewhere. :) nothing much to change at my end.

Work is still the same, but i do hope there is new promising opening once the Command Centre is set up. i'm pretty sian of my job actually, but cant deny that, firstly i need the moolahs, and secondly the benefits and colleagues are really lovely people around. of cos not forgetting the flexibility of being able to reach work late :p

Met up with the poly gang on 30th for a decent dinner at Tao's Restaurant. I googled and saw pretty good reviews about the place and decided to give it a try. I must say I am impressed with the service crew - especially so, since it was a full house that night.. fully reserved! The others raved about the food being of decent quality given the price we paid for (which was about $35 nett each). All in all, we enjoyed ourselves.. only pity was QM and Larry couldnt join in.

Counting down to the new year

it has been quite awhile since i last blogged. What happened in between, i forgot already :p really not good to be unable to blog during ofc hours la heh..

Xmas was cool eventually.. though the festive mood didnt really sink into me this year. I conclude it has to do with age. ha! People who know me inside out should know that Christmas (and my birthday) is one occassion I never fail to celebrate with joy. But Xmas shopping didnt start for me until eve of eve, which eventually got the ball rolling but it was sorta forced to roll.

Am on leave this week to spend time with the kiddos. Had brought Xavier fish-netting at bottle tree park @ khatib on Monday and watched Alvin and the Chipmunks 2 this afternoon. Xazz is gonna take her last immunisation jab tmr.. so have not decided where to head to before/after her appt.

I feel quite bad not bringing Xazz out as much as I'd love too. She's such an early bird, waking up at 7-8am in the morning, then take her nap ard noon time. The only time she's available is afternoon when it is time for Xavier to take a nap. Sigh. And I usualy refrain from going out late afternoon cos Xazz wants to slp by 8+/9pm. double sigh.

i may take a break tomorrow. Having dinner with my lovelies.

After having such a bad month in Nov, I decided to make it better by organising a family outing.

*prayed sibei hard for good weather* - and it happened! Sunday drizzled awhile on our way out but the weather at the West was lovely. I could see the sun and feel the wind :)

Had lunch at Bongo Burger, then bought 3 adult admission tickets c/w panorail ride, 1kid's egg-cellent package (which consisted of admission, panorail and 2 bird feedings) and rented a wagon to pull the kiddos around. All cost ~$130 =.= Family outings v expensive sia.

First stop was to watch Children's Parrot Show at the pool amphitheatre.

Then we headed to look at penguins. Zw v happi cos got air con! lol~ We had mistaken puffins as baby penguins. (I is ignorant kid :P) In fact, I didnt even know there were something else that looked like penguins which are not.. until then. Xavier enjoyed snapping photos of the swimming penguins as well, but most of the photos cannot make it.

I feel this month is a uber suay month for me.

First, had bad gastric flu for 3 days - and it had to be on the days I applied leave. =.=
Second, kena conned by a stupid phonic teacher.
Third, had ultimate quarrel with dear.. almost decided to part ways...
Fourth, lost camera at Boiler's Room. Worst, it wasnt mine!

Although there are nice things that happened, like co. D&D and the smacking fun at Boiler's - that got me so high.. i totally forgot about the camera.

Sigh..

Glad that there are only 3 more days till the end of the month. Maybe I need to bathe with some flowers =D

My simple wish was for Xavier to brush up his English. From words of mouth, praises of this home based teacher got to my ears and I decided to let Xavier go for it.

$250 per month - an hour a week, not inclusive of materials - is not cheap, imho. But as it was affordable, and after a couple of trial lessons Xavier took a liking to attend this phonic class.. I was more than happy to pay for it.

>$1k upfront payment for a term's fees, a month's deposit, registration and materials. Classes started from end June with Teacher Jenne thrice, then the founder Karen took over. We shifted location from Admiralty to Sembawang. Well, it was still in the North and Karen sounded sincere in taking over the classes to maintain quality of teaching standard (or so she claimed) we relented to the change in environment.

Then, lessons were cancelled subsequently on the very last min, like 3am in the wee hours to say she is sick, or 8am in the morning to say she has lost her voice. Always in the early morning of the day of the class! Xavier's class is on a Saturday morning. Every Friday night he will go to bed anticipating next morning's class, only to be disappointed time and again. To an extend when I tuck him in bed and tell him, "Quick go slp, tmr going for Teacher Karen's class".. he will rebut "but she is always sick.."

Lessons were continuously cancelled for the whole month of August. Then, Karen told another teacher Daphne to take over. Another sincere attempt to show her remorse in causing disruptions to the classes. I was fed up at this point of time. Why do I not show sympathy to an ill teacher, you may ask.

Well, Karen has only herself to blame. She added me on Facebook and I was in full visiblity of her problem with her then-husband cos of a third party. She went on a wild party rebounce in that month of August that she always claimed to be sick. Yea, sick.. probably hangover, rather than bronchitis as she said.

In September I told her that I wanted to withdraw Xavier from the course as it is too disruptive and he wont be able to learn anything from the intermitten classes and change of teacher means he will need time to adjust and adapt to each one repeatedly. She assures me that Daphne will be the last teacher she will be replacing for Xavier's class. She insisted that I have to complete the full term and cannot refund me the money even though, imo, it was her lack of duty to conduct the class in good order.

Well, I relented again and things went smoothly in September with Teacher Daphne taking over. The problem started in October once again, and since October Xavier had not attended lessons until now. On the last saturday that just passed, she claims her husband "just met with an accident and is in icu" 3 hours before Xavier's class is due to start. For a while, I felt that it could be true. I told her I was sorry to hear of this and may God bless him.

Today I found out that she actually deleted me from her Facebook. While her husband is in ICU, she has the mood to log on to Facebook and delete me from her list? Its too much of a coincidence, no? I find it totally absurb and ridiculous! It makes me query that she may be lying about her husband's conditions - to the extent of cursing him, perhaps due to their soured rship? My guess.

This time she asked if I will like to withdraw or continue with lessons, which can only be 2 wks later from now. Well, I took the chance and told her firmly for a refund of whatever bit of money there's left to return. There is too much doubt for me to give her the benefits.

This is totally disappointing!

The office peeps impromptuly jio-ed to go Boiler's last evening. Everyone was damn onz, we all agreed to go but we ended up in Biellini instead. I can only say the music was not my cup of tea. 90% of the songs are foreign to me! Too old-skool la.

Luckily got another group of friends clubbing elsewhere, and I decided to join :P Sometimes its hard not to agree that things happen for a reason. I met my old friend! If not becos Boiler was goddamn packed, we wont have settled for Biellini, and I wont decide to zarboh elsewhere.

Too bad I didnt have my cam. I used to think this fren of mine has a heart melting smile that will make many girls go gaga over. 5 years on, I realised he still does!.. although bigger size liao haha!

Well, its time like these make me treasure friends that I have. Some who leave will leave for good, only those fated to stay in your life will return and stay.

We decided to visit the old folks during the Deepavali long weekend, as it happen to fall on Granddad's bday.

I remembered I chanced upon an article in some sort of a baby-related mag. A child's strongest bonding period is from birth till 5 years old. The person whom the child bonds strongest with during these 5 years will maintain the bond throughout his/her years. I dont know how true it may be for others, but this lady who took care of me in that vital 5 years of my life is definitely the kin I love most.

Granny is Dad's mum. Some people tend to get curious about my bonding with Granny cos of my distraught rship with Dad. Oh well, I am an adult now and I can differentiate whats right and whats wrong. I would say I am an objective person to a certain extent.. so I dont see why my issues with Dad should affect my rship with his Mum.

Of cos, I love my Mum too la!

Went Iluma shopping on Monday with Shan. More like a shopping spree! Much as others say iluma is a boring, quiet place, I managed to find great things in the shops.

I could have changed my entire outfit from my great steals that day. Surprisingly, its the accessories that cost the bulk of it.

My initial plan was to get some accessories to match my dress for Ly's wedding dinner. Yea, initial plan... You know, people change.. plans change too :P Had lunch then embarked on our shopping and la kopi at TCC for an hour after conquering Iluma.. and its home sweet home to fetch Xavier from school. Somehow, Xavier 'saved' me. Lol! I had such splendid spending mood that day, if I did not have to leave before dinner.. I would have risked burning a hole in the pocket. hurhur!

Mid Autumn!

I remember as a child, Dad and Mum will buy lanterns each for Chari and me to go to the park to have some childhood fun. As we grew older, we started to light the candles, burn the lanterns and bring more newspapers just for burning. Only when everything ended up in smoke and ashes, did we return home.

While others are happi that we have assorted truffles and snowskin now, I lurved to use this festival as an excuse to indulge on sinful traditional double yolk red bean mooncakes :p Xavier has been pretty hands-on in school - baking muffins for Mothers' Day, brandy cupcake for Fathers' Day, etc. Now he moulded a pair of mini snow skin almond lotus mooncake for us!

Were at Auntie's place for the kids to gather.. invited CP and Tristan over as well. Kids nowadays play with sparkles more than lanterns on this festival.

I lurve my frens too, but used to hardly have time for them. Ever since having an extra helping hand at home, I try to make more effort to meet up with my dearies. Still, I will limit myself to stay out late not more than twice a week so that I can spend time with my babies, big and small, at home.

Had dinner at MOF for Qiumei's bday, and also a gathering for my poly abangs. Lazy to type more... peektures speak a thousand words.

I took almost a week off from work for his bday celebrations and was supposed to go back to work on Tues when he fell ill. Brought him to the doc and was diagnosed with the terrible HFMD! Almost instantly my thought was Xazz was going to get it as well cos she shared water with Xav on Monday. Sigh! True to my words, she did... but was glad that she did not succumb as badly as Xav to the virus. It was yet another week long working at home, taking care of the kids. Didnt go back office for half a month in Oct. heh... =|

All's good now. Up and running! Thanks to all the prayers on them. I'm sure they helped.

Office has blocked FB and blogger, so I will always be terribly late in updating. More peektures to come, more entries to be updated.. perhaps FB's updates will be more prompt ;P (cos jus upload photos ma) keke!

Dinner is a daily affair, it's the company that makes the vast difference.
Time seems to wheeze by when catching up with old secondary sch friend over dinner.

Awhile back, I felt I could not fit into the group - our topics could not click! Most of the time, I just quietly sat with them while they rattle on about their work, and lives. I had always felt more comfortable with my poly gang. I am pretty glad that as we age (LOL!) we have more in-common topics to speak with each other of.

Caught Shan for dinner at Cafe Cartel last Friday at Plaza Sing after her shopping trip to Daiso. 4 hours of food and talks seems like merely an hour! Time is never enough for catching up. We ought to do this more often.

Shan, Germz... I still owe u girls desserts! When are we going to meet again? =)

The recent hot entertainment waves locally has been on Felicia Chin, and Joanne Peh. I am on the stand that they did PS, but if they deny through their teeth.. what can we say, right? I always cannot comprehend why some people, kinda obviously, did PS but can balantly deny everything.

When the hell did her boobs became this big? I can clearly remember how her grey tube dress almost slipped off her runway while she was nervously running up the stage on Star Awards night.

When were her eyes that small? I think many years ago when she was in the "tong xin yuan" drama. Taping lids do cause crease in the lids, I totally agree cos my sis managed to do so as well. But it wont be creased so perfectly like it was meant to be, and equally on both sides of the eyes.

Boobs in the Vitagen advertisement is like, overflowing. I was first drawn to the Vitagen advertisement, thinking why is she 'showing off her boobs' in a health drink advertisement. Only did I realised that - wow! that's freaking big comparatively to the fishball-mei time in "tong xin yuan" drama serial.

Personally I wont be so affected whether they DID the deed. It's more of OWNING up to the deed that matters more. Some things are pretty obvious to the naked eyes. Or perhaps, they aren't allowed to admit to the media? Entertainment circle is a complexed environment.. too much needs to be sacrificed in exchange for fame. Andy Lau is yet another example.

Sometimes it really is good to be simple. Happiness lies in contentment.

Tick saliva could hold cancer cure: Brazilian scientists

SAO PAULO (AFP) - - It may be one of nature's repulsive little blood-sucking parasites, but the humble tick could yield a future cure for cancers of the skin, liver and pancreas, Brazilian researchers have discovered.

They have identified a protein in the saliva of a common South American tick, Amblyomma cajennense, that apparently reduces and can even eradicate cancerous cells while leaving healthy cells alone.

"This is a radical innovation," said Ana Marisa Chudzinski-Tavassi, the molecular biologist at the Instituto Butantan in Sao Paulo who is leading the research.

"The component of the saliva of this tick... could be the cure for cancer," she told AFP.

She said she stumbled on the properties of the protein, called Factor X active, while testing the anti-coagulant properties of the tick's saliva -- the way it stops blood thickening and clotting so the tick can keep gorging itself on its host.

The protein shares some characteristics with a common anti-coagulant called TFPI (Tissue Factor Pathway Inhibitor), specifically a Kunitz-type inhibitor which also has been shown to interfere with cell growth.

A theory that the protein might have an effect on cancerous cells led to laboratory tests on cell cultures -- which exceeded all expectations.

"To our surprise it didn't kill normal cells, which were also tested," Chudzinski-Tavassi said. "But it did kill the tumorous cells that were being analyzed."

In her modest lab in the institute, housed in a rundown building, a line of immobile bloated ticks could be seen lined up with straws under their heads.

The small amounts of saliva captured that way was reproduced many times over in yeast vats so that tests could be carried out on lab rats with cancer.

The results have been more than promising.

"If I treat every day for 14 days an animal's tumor, a small tumor, this tumor doesn't develop -- it even regresses. The tumor mass shrinks. If I treat for 42 days, you totally eliminate the tumor," the scientist said.

Producing a medicine from the find, though, will require years of clinical tests and a significant financial investment -- neither of which Brazil is geared to provide.

Chudzinski-Tavassi has applied for a patent on the tick protein, and is presenting her team's discovery in medical journals and conferences around the world.

But she says moving beyond her lab "proof of concept" will be frustratingly difficult.

"To discover this is one thing. To turn it into a medicine is a whole other thing entirely," she said.

Falling apart

We went Mum's home last night to help her fix her kitchen lighting. It had been a good half year since we last stepped into the place I used to call home. It was quite saddening to see the sorry state that the house is now in. I can then understand why Chari dislike going back.

Mum was telling us that the neighbours have shifted to a condominum, again. Now it is occupied by the third owner. The previous two have both upgraded to condominums, while Mum is still at the original spot, perhaps downgrading.

It has been a long way since Mum walked through this. Although she is still very much dependant, I'm glad that she has gradually taken things in her stride. I am glad that she found a religion she can keep her faith in (though at times, I still dont condone to her way of thoughts and behaviour). I hope a new change of environment next year will help restart everything.

Things can only get better when it reaches pit bottom.

Orphan

Not the horror movie - Orphan.
Granddad passed away last saturday so Mum is officially an orphan now. =|

It was a pretty light hearted funeral, as we all anticipated this day nearing. Granddad has been in n out of hospital multiple times, and the last time he was admitted, everyone thought he would most probably pass on then. So the following week before his actual death was in fact a bonus to the family to spend their last moments with him.

Although I was not particularly close with him, its inevitable to feel a sense of loss when a loved one passed on. Looking at his lifeless body on the bed made me realised that all materials that we possess in life are transient, what matters is we are happy while we are alive. What is the point of sloughing for all the material gains when at the end of the day, you dont feel happy?

I hope my granddad will be happier in the other world, where there is no pain and sickness. =)

The last long wkend

The national day long wkend holiday was gone in a flash.
Saturday was spent celebrating Pretty boy's wedding...

Wedding was at Singapore Art Musem. Rather interesting place to hold a wedding. Their Justice of Peace was quite kuku. Came late, gave wrong speech somemore.. It was a laugh stage =.= Dinner was served buffet-style. Seems like many people are opting for this choice. It really allows the dinner to end earlier, which is good! Breakthrough from the traditional 8 or 10 course-dinner. Most importantly, food must be tasty and enough! =o)

Sunday was steamboat dinner with the family at home.. Too bz eating, no time for pics.

Daddy, Mummy and Xavier caught UP on Monday morning. Popcorn was our bfast! hee...

It is a heartwarming story that entails the love between the old couple. It's not as easily understood by children as Ice Age. Ice Age is one that you can laugh urself silly over the animations and conversations. Up is one that touches your heart with its storyline. Personally I prefer Up anytime, to Ice Age. But from a child's perspective, Ice Age is 'funnier'.

Took leave last wednesday to bring sweetpie Xazz out. It has been awhile since we brought her out. =P Dear always decides to chuck her with maidy ever since we had that extra helping hand at home. I do agree that bringing a ~~baby~~ toddler out is comparatively more troublesome than one as old as Xavier. And so it explains my intention of taking the day off just for her!

Initial plan was to go Orchard ION but we ended up at Sembawang shopping centre due to time constraint. Baby really enjoyed herself, "wooah"-ing all the way from below my block, on the bus, to the shopping centre.

She loves playing kissing game now.. and practically kisses anything and everything! haa.

Although we hvnt been on good terms for the longest I remember, I still feel bad saying something so hurtful. Or perhaps, he wouldnt even bothered by my sms.

I brought Xavier to watch his first movie 2 saturdays ago.. like, finally! It has been ages that I wanted to bring him into a cinema but I was worried that he will not last through the whole movie.

Ice Age 3 was a wise choice, imo. It was a hilarious movie and easily understood. Even without paying attention to the conversations, I'm sure the animations are worth a hearty laugh over.

All the talk about taking good care of my needs and investment is seriously BULLSHIT. A friend convinced me to transfer over my investment account, giving assurance that he will be the better one to manage my investment (as compared to the previous agent - who was also my friend). Of newcomer, new style and new realization

4 + 1 = 5
Maidy joined us since Tuesday night. She is great so far. She's like the superwoman I can never be. Do so many things in a day! Xazz and Xavier can accomodate to her 'intrusion' very nicely. Xazz allows maidy to carry her - which isnt a v common sight. Things have been looking good so far.

Snip and Dye
Was on leave on Tuesday - for maidy arrival actually but end up booking a night flight for her. That left me with ample time in the day. Went for my long-needed haircut and impulsively decided to get it coloured.

Had initially wanted to just dye and commented to my stylist "help me dye la, my hair v boring". She suggested I highlight instead for a more layered feel. This is in fact my first hightlight can! haaa... usually I just dye it whole but have been crowning black hair for quite sometime since I had Xazz.

Touched
Last night, my tummy gave me some problems - I think got wind - cos there's this pulling sensation at every 5-10 mins interval. Xavier and Xazz were both lying on my sides ready for bed while I tried to bear with the pain. Xavier, as usual, kept talking to me while I explained to him that I was in great pain and it will be nice if he keeps quiet. Finally he realised that I was in pain. He teared and said,"mummy, i dont want you to be pain. if not i will sad sad." Wahhhhh.... I damn touched sia.

I always felt this cheeky boy took me for granted. Only last night I realised he does love me in every sense I do for him. :-)

I chanced upon this blog when viewing my friend's. My, I am so proud of this stranger sweetheart who fought so bravely against Stage 4 neuroblastoma cancer at a mere age of 4. She has just undergone a surgery to remove a tumor from her adrenal gland and is working the way towards her 5th chemo treatment. As much as it may seem too much for a child her age to endure, she survived it all thus far. Her single mum is unable to cope with the huge medical expense of USD350,000 to bring Charmaine to NY for treatment which will increase abt 10-20% of her survival chance. A fundraising drive is in the midst now in hope to get more people to help her.

Below is an extract from her blog. As a mum myself, I can feel the heart wrench with every word she said. I believe everyone shld be given a chance to live - children all the more. They are innocent, lovable and they certainly deserves the chance and time to stay on and embrace the world.

I thought over, probably a couple hundreds of times wondering how to write this entry. At the end of the day, I still have no idea what to write.

Truth is when I first saw the email sent by Dr Aung on the amount needed to bring Charmaine to New York for treatment, I was shocked. $350,000 is the upfront deposit. I weren’t sure what currency it was in. Sent Jolene and Charlene a text message, ending the message with “I would give up if it is in USD”.

And of course, the bad news never ends.

$350,000 USD.

Half a million Singapore dollars.

How would I ever be able to raise this amount of sum? How do I convince anyone that Charmaine’s life is worth half a million dollars? I don’t know how. I seriously don’t know how. So many times, I want to give up. I don’t know how to think. I don’t know what to think. I don’t want to think. I don’t dare to think.

A week has passed since I received the email and I know I have already procrastinated a week away and made no progress.

I am brought up to think rationally and weigh my decisions against benefits and cost. Rationally speaking, I know fully well that half a million dollars can be better spent on saving thousands of malnourished kids in Africa than on Charmaine who only has a 40-50% chance of survival even with the antibody in New York.

But Charmaine is my daughter. No amount of money can justify how important she is to me. And Jase. Despite Jase’s young age and maturity, I know fully well that he loves his mei mei just as much as I do.

I would do just about anything to save her. I thought about selling my kidney, being a surrogate mom. They may sound stupid and crazy but my conscience feels so much better with me earning that USD $350,000 because I cannot think of any rational reason to convince you to help me save Charmaine.

I really thought of giving up. Its so much more easier and I am so tired.

I don’t want to think about anything anymore. Its easier just remembering the next doctor’s appointment, the next time for medication, the next time to pay the bills and just things I can do without thinking…

I even avoided Jolene and Charlene for a week because I have no answer for them. Their suggestion to go public and seek for help. My permission to allow them to publicise the materials.

Even as I am typing right now, I don’t exactly know what am I doing. I don’t know what I have decided. I don’t know the consequences of me typing this.

The only thing I know for sure is that should anything happen to Charmaine, I would never be able to forgive myself for not trying to fight for Charmaine when all she has to help her is me.

This is the very reason why I am typing this.

Dear friends, please help Jase and me to save Charmaine.

Again, we quarrelled cos of Xavier.
I realised that we both have v different parenting approach towards the kids..
which always leads to us arguing.

I feel that he is too physical with them
He feels that I spoil them

I thought hard about it...
Well, mayb I really am lenient towards the kids, but I dont spoil them.

I've heard of stories where kids get cancer,
I've a fren who lost her child cos of cancer.

I mentioned the illness as an example, so its not the primary issue.
but I dont want to treat them harshly, only to regret it myself later.. somehow.

I once heard this saying "treat (everyone) like it's the last you will see of them
More often than not, we take things for granted.. we dont treasure whatever happiness that is in our hands. Only when it leaves us, we start to regret.
This is what I dont want to end up with.
Through the kids, I learn to count my blessings.
I learn not to take ANYTHING for granted.

It's hard to make him understand where a mother's concern is coming from.
I just wish that we can come to a consensus eventually.

As from the subject head, Xazz is now busy making her way all around the house.

Her walking movement ain't so refined yet, so it's rather clown-y looking at her walk, with her knees lifted higher than usual. haha!

Maturity comes with age?... not always

I realised that I dont usually blog about happenings in (new) office. Perhaps to me, work is just work afterall. Nevertheless, I have this colleague who came in the same time as I did, the same age as I am.. everyone's been saying "let's give her more care and concern, she's still young". It has come to a point where I really cannot stand it...

..... duh .....

If they claim she's young, so am I what.
"Cannot compare la, you'r a Mother of two.. she's still a protected rich child"

..... duh .....

Well, giving her care and concern is OK. But at the age of 26, if she still doesnt know what she wants and how she shld handle work differences, I really dont know how she can survive in this dog-eat-dog cruel working society. There is only so much we can help her, or they can help her.. but if she cant be independant and know what she wants, sorry I dont think we should spoon feed her.

Afterall, we'r all here to work for the money (at least for the most of us). Not paid to come office show her endless care and concern.
